FAQ

F.A.Q.’s
Here you will find common questions about Bulldog Targets. If you cannot find the question you are looking for please enter it in the form at the bottom so that we can add it.

How does this Lifetime warranty thing work? Is it for real?
It is 100% for real. Bulldog Targets is the first archery target company to offer a lifetime warranty on an archery target. With each Doghouse FP you are covered for life! If you wear out the face, the inside, or any other part of the target by shooting at it we will replace it for the rest of its life. Generally the only part that wears out on the target is the face so usually we will just send out a new face kit, however if for some reason you have worn out more than just the face we will send out a brand new target.

Will the Range Dog work for Fita Tournaments?
The Range Dog is large enough to hold an 80cm target so it will not work for 90 and 70 meters where a 122cm face is needed. It will however work for the 2 shorter distances. We would also like to point out that it is the perfect size for a field course. All the field targets fit on it and it is perfect because it is not excessively big so taking it through the course to set up is easy.

How long does a target last?
This is a difficult question to answer exactly but we have seen some of our targets lasting between 10,000 – 30,000 shots. Our bigger targets such as the Range Dog and the K9 last even longer. The thing that makes our targets different is that even when they wear out all you need to do is install a new face and they are basically brand new again. The inside of our targets basically lasts forever so as long as you keep the face in good shape it might last you forever!

Can I shoot broadheads at the Bulldog targets?
The archery targets that we currently offer are not meant for broadheads. We will be releasing a broadhead model in the future. Our entire current line up is just for field points.

My target has a spot on it that the arrow almost goes all the way through but the rest is fine. Why is this?
Because of the nature of our targets this can from time to time happen. It simply happens because there is a certain spot that has been hit a lot or has a small void. It is really easy to fix. Lay the target down on its face and stand up on top of it. Step up and down and in various spots on the target and this will redistrubute the inside, correcting the problem.

Can I leave my target out in the rain?
Your Bulldog target can withstand the rain no problem. The main issue with leaving it outside for extended periods of time is actually not the rain, it is the sun. The sun will dry out the face and also fade the target circles on the target. It’s perfectly fine to leave it out for a few days here and there but if you are done after hunting season we would recommend storing it inside for the off season.

Can I shoot Crossbows going 300fps+ at the Bulldog targets?
Absolutely! All of our targets will stop crossbows…. However we Highly recommend our 12″ thick series. This would included the DogHouse XP and the Doghouse FF and the DoubleDog FF for crossbows. These three will last much longer for crossbow use.

What is the best way to pin a paper target to the FF (Flat Face Series)
We have found the the best method for pinning targets to your DogHouse FF, DoubleDog FF, RangeDog, and K9 Targets are with a long nail with a plastic washer. Golf Tee’s tend to be a bit hard to push in. There are a few target pins on the market that work well. For example:

Is there anything I can do to extend the life of my target?
Yes there is – shoot sharp points! By this we mean if you have a field point on your arrow that is blunt, or dull, or has hit something hard and has a jagged edge, put a new point on it. The design of our targets is such that when an arrow enters it slips between the weave of the target and really hardly damages the face. When you pull the arrow out the fibers heal back up behind it. However if you have a badly damaged point, or a dull bullet point it wears out the fibers a lot quicker.

I would like to buy a lot of targets for my club. Do you have discounts for clubs and ranges?
Yes we do! If you are looking to purchase a lot of targets for your club, range, or for an event email us or phone us at 507-227-4050 and we would be happy to give you a quote.

 Q. Does Pacific Bow Butts require a lot of maintenance time?

Absolutely Not! No rebounding or reshuffling.

For indoor ranges: For a small range 10 – 12 feet wide, with high traffic (60 -100 shooter per week) we only suggest rotating every six months. Otherwise on Indoor Ranges, once a year rotation is sufficient. When arrows are penetrating 14 – 16 inches, this is a good rule of thumb for rotation time. Rotate butts by turning 180 degrees. The middle backstops on Indoor Archery Ranges are shot most frequent, so switch outer butts to middle and still rotate 180 degrees. Frequent rotation of placement of targets on our backstops greatly increases longevity of our backstops.

On outdoor ranges the 10,20,30 and 40 yard butts gets hammered. These should be rotated top to bottom – front to back after the first six months, or go by rule of thumb: 14 – 16 inch average arrow penetration. After first years use, we recommend rotating the 10 – 30 yard butts with the farther distance butts. 50, 60, 70.

Q. How long does your range backstops last?

Basically the life of our Archery Backstops depend on range size and the number of shooters. Frequent rotation of  placement of targets on our backstops greatly increases backstop longevity.Maintenance is very, very minimal. The only expense would be if you wanted to replace the covers. The Cadillac quality of our white poly woven covers with the highest UV protection available is designed to last the life of the butts.
Quality replacement covers are available if you desire, they cost $25.00 delivered.

Q. Can you shoot broadheads?

YES!  Broadhead Use:

Before shooting broadheads shoot one-side 500 – 1000 shots with fieldpoints then start using broadheads on that same side. Arrow removal requires a simple push and pull tug at first, but gets easier the more you shoot without increased penetration even after 1,000 shots. This is the break-in period. Shoot thousands more with fieldpoints after broadhead season. This is the most durable target that you’ll ever need for both fieldpoints and broadheads.

Q. What are the covers made of and are they durable?

Our Woven Poly covering is like no other! Our covers last so long because the poly fibers are woven not flat like other target covers and ours are UV treated. They can handle full-on, direct sun light, with minimal affect due to the advanced UV protection built into the fibers and are designed to last the life of the butts.

You will be amazed at how it responds to arrow impact. What it does is move out of the way rather than getting cut by the arrow. Odd? Perhaps. But what that means is our archery backstop covers last many times longer than our competitors’ targets.

Q. What’s the best way to install Pacific Bow Butts?

It just depends on your needs and desire. For indoor ranges most ranges prefer horizontal installation and stack 2 or 3 Butts high. The top tier catches stray arrows from hitting the back wall and is used in the rotation routine each year.
High traffic outdoor ranges shooting at 10 and 20 yards. We reccomend our PBB Indoor 48 butts be used. In some instances they are installed vertical for birdie targets, but in most cases horizontal installation is used.

Q. Do the backstops need to be covered?

We do recommend for outdoor use that the top of the butt  be covered and target raised off the ground to prevent moisture migration.  Our UV Resistant Covers are  designed to last 2 years in direct sunlight. It is preferable to build a two post stand and roof. Contact us for materials list and pictures for a two post target stand. If this is not possible contact us for suggestions.

Q. Do you custom manufacture to adapt to existing target sheds?

Yes! Most existing target sheds were built to accommodate excelsior size backstops. We can manufacture butts to fit these existing sheds. Widths from 36” up to 52”.

Q. Does your backstops leave any residue on arrow shafts?

Most cases NO. When the butts are new some carbon arrows at speeds in excess of 300 fps have had some residue. This discontinues after a couple weeks of shooting. We try to keep up with new arrow manufacturing technology and their new types of coatings that react to friction heat. They’re easy to remedy once discovered. Cleaning arrow shafts used for 3D shooting will help prevent a reaction from  3D materials already on arrow shafts.

Q. Are arrows easy to remove?

Yes. At first you will need to use a two hand technique where you push and then give a quick tug, arrows will release for easy removal. Removal is easier after thousands of shots without sacrificing increased penetration.

Q. Are Pacific Bow Butts used for Crossbows?

YES!! By all means have at it. We even have a special Personal Crossbow Target and a Range Target.  We sugget a high velocity arrow puller for easy arrow removal.

Q. Do arrows bounce out with light poundage bows?

NO!! Any arrow any speed.

Q. Do you make smaller targets for personal use?

Yes! Our Buck Butt, Mini Butt and X Bow Butt 325 are designed for personal use. Target Shooters and Bow hunters both love the durability and longevity of these smaller targets.
